In summary, it may be concluded that Daniel’s great prophecy of the seventy sevens comprehends the total history of Israel from the time of Nehemiah in 445 B.C. until the second coming of Jesus Christ. In the first period of seven sevens, the city and the streets are rebuilt. In the second period of sixty-two sevens which follows, the Messiah appears and is living at the conclusion of the period. In the parenthesis between the sixty-ninth seven and the seventieth seven, at least two major events take place: the cutting off of the Messiah (the death of Christ) and the destruction of Jerusalem in a.d. 70.

Many scholars opt for the fourth proposal because Artaxerxes‘s commission to Nehemiah specifically entails building the walls and this accounts for the word to rebuild Jerusalem. Yet this proposal faces many problems. It requires that the Messiah be cut off in the sixty-ninth sab- batical and leaves the seventieth sabbatical in v. 27 unexplained. This option also simply does not work if we are counting sabbaticals and years in a literal sense. To make this proposal work, H. Hoehner, one of its most able proponents, uses so-called “prophetic years” of 360 days, but with scant support for such a calendrical definition or evidence that this is typical in prophetic pre- dictions.
Scholars who argue that the death of
the Messiah occurs in the sixty-ninth sabbatical explain that “after sixty-nine weeks” really means “in the sixty-ninth week” in ordinary language or reckoning of the time.22 Such an argument constitutes special pleading.

Most Scholars saw the LXX as inferior to the Hebrew Bible called the Masoretic Text (MT). With the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, this all changed. Ancient Hebrew scrolls were found that follow the LXX, not the Masoretic Text. The DSS showed that the LXX had an underlying Hebrew Text that was different from the MT.

At that, Rabbi Bogner told me he was prohibited by Talmudic Law from studying that chapter. When I asked why, he said, "Cursed be the man who calculates the time of the coming of the Messiah." He knew that Daniel 9 did indeed contain God's message to us as to when the Messiah would come. But he explained that the Talmud prohibited studying it because of the possible unbelief that could arise from some making incorrect calculations and being disappointed.

Yeshua (יֵשׁוּעַ, Greek: Iesous, from which the common spelling Jesus comes) means Salvation. It is a shorter form of Yehoshua (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ).
In most modern-day jewish writings, Yeshu (ישו) is used instead, which is often understood as an acronym for yimakh shemo v'zichro(no) ((ימח שמו וזכרו(נו). The phrase means "May his name and memory be obliterated" and it was often used as a curse placed after the name of particular enemies of the Jewish people [1]. This fulfills the prophecy in Psalm 102.8 saying: "All the day my enemies taunt me; those who deride me use my name for a curse"[2]. Some disagree with this interpretation though[3].
